Student Council – Divekar College of Commerce Karwar

Student council is a group of students elected by peers to participate in designated areas of college regime. Students who participate in student councils, under the supervision of a teacher or administrator, learn about the democratic process, civic responsibility, leadership, problem solving, and teamwork. The members are duly elected in the General Election of the College for one year in accordance with Student’s Union Constitution of the University.

Students’ Council is a student-run association. Student self-governance is strongly related to the values and ideals of the College; students are afforded a large amount of autonomy and may use this opportunity to craft the kinds of experiences they wish to have. The student council organizes several co-curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the year for all the students to participate based on their interest and inclination

Objectives:

To bridge the gap between the students and the management
To address all grievances and complaints at the first level in order to ensure the smooth functioning at all levels
To improve the campus experience of the students by ensuring proper maintenance of the infrastructure and other facilities
To assist in all PR activities on campus in order to achieve the vision of the university
Alignment of all activities to the cultural norms of the campus

Role of the Student Council

To promote the interests of the students
To assist and advise the students
To be the link between students and teachers and management.

Responsibilities of the Student Council

To promote the interests of students among the Institute administration, staff and parents.
To inform students about any subject that concerns them
To identify and help solve problems encountered by students in the Institute.
To consult students on any issue of importance.
To organize educational and recreational activities for students.
To participate in developing the Institute’s educational projects and to promote it to students
To organize an activity to recognize the efforts of students involved in organizing Institute activities.
To propose activities to the Institute administration that would improve the quality of life in the Institute.
To maintain good relations, out of mutual respect, with the Institute staff (the Director, teaching and non-teaching personnel) and parents.

OATH

Each department selects/elects their representative from students for the allocated post, after the declaration of final election results by the Principal, a suitable date and time shall be fixed to administer the Oath of the Students’ Union. The Oath will be administered by the Co-coordinator of Career Guidance and Placement Cell. Student council organizes Annual Social Gathering and Annual Sports events every year. In addition to this, council also organizes various extra-curricular and co-curricular activities and celebrates various days i.e. Independence Day, Republic Day, Teachers Day and many more, during each academic year.
